In this charming region, every place tells a story. Walk along the Guánica Boardwalk and contemplate its unique bay. On August 12, 1508, Juan Ponce de León landed in Guánica Bay and founded the first settlement, called Guaynía, a town that would be the capital of the island until its destruction by the natives in 1511. On July 25, 1898, American troops under the command of General Nelson Miles landed from the USS Gloucester on the coast of Guánica as part of the Spanish-American War in Puerto Rico, a campaign that would give possession of the island to the United States.
Visit the Sunflower Farm, an oasis of color and joy, or explore and appreciate the incredible view of Guánica from Fort Caprón, where the Spanish watched over pirate and enemy ships. In 1898, the United States Army rebuilt it for continued use.
The gastronomic offer is equally impressive. From authentic flavors in La Parguera to local restaurants less than 1 minute away offering the essence of Puerto Rican cuisine, every bite is a culinary adventure.
